How To Drape, A Gown Saree!
The saree, an ensemble that look effortlessly chic on every Indian body type, is a wardrobe mainstay. It's quality of, exposing and camouflaging at the same time makes it unique to every women. Today, styling a saree is endless, thanks to all the designers with the aim of reinventing this timeless classic.
Gone are the days, when this silhouette had failed to elucidate as the ethnic counterpart of a cocktail dress or evening gown or as a global fashion trend for the younger generation. Though, we all love the classic drapes, the gown saree has become a fashionistas favourite. The fusion of Indian textiles draped in a non-traditional way, just makes it a lot more attractive.
To achieve the gown saree look:
1. Wear A Western Top:
Balance is key, when building a successful look. For the gown saree, to balance the modern drape, wear a western top. A peplum top or a crop top work well with this drape. Stick to a similar colour palette as your saree, as we have in this video. When in doubt, go monotone.
2. Pleat The Saree:
Pleat your saree the usual way, just ensure that you make wider pleats, atleast 7 inch wide. Stick with lesser pleats, to closely achieve the look of an actual gown.
3. The Pallu:
Make thin pleats of the pallu, precisely 3 inch wide pleats. If you have a thick border, than stick to the width of the border, when pleating. When the pallu is neatly pleated, pin the pallu at two places to secure the pallu. Then pin the pallu at the shoulder.
4. Final Touches:
When you are done pinning the pallu, you will notice some lose fabric at the waist. Tightly drape the fabric at your waist and pin it below the pallu.
That's all it takes to drape a gown saree. Hope you find this video helpful.
