How To "Un-shrink" Your Shrunken Clothes
Have you ever thrown away your favourite t-shirt or pants just because its shrunk? We’ve all seen it happen or experienced it at least once that we’ve got a new clothing which no more looks the same. You can, however get them back into shape.
Here are some steps you should follow.
-Fill a tub with lukewarm water and add 1TBS conditioner or baby shampoo into the water. What it does is it relax the fibers of your shrunken clothes. When the fibers are relaxed, they become easier to stretch and reshape.
-Let it soak in for 30 mins...Most clothes like cotton, wool and jersey material will respond to this treatment better than fabrics with tighter weaves like silk, polyester or rayon.
-Remove the garment from the soapy water solution, and squeeze firmly to remove excess moisture. Do not rinse the garment. The soapy water needs to continue the process of relaxing the fibers as you work on stretching and re-shaping the garment.
-Take a large towel and lay the clothing flat on it.
-Roll the towel up with the clothing inside it.
-Start at the bottom and roll the towel up tightly with the clothing inside. Your goal here is to soak up most of the water but still leave the item damp
-Once the towel is completely rolled, press your hand along the roll and squeeze it as well. This will help pull the water out of the clothing and be absorbed by the towel.
-Now open the towel and Gently stretch the clothing as it lays out to dry. Continue to do this until the clothing returns to its original size.
That’s all there is to it! Your clothes can live on to see another day.
