Treat PCOS The Right Way!

Treat PCOS The Right Way!

We all know by now that PCOS ( polycystic ovary syndrome) is a hormonal disorder that can take place when women hits reproductive age. The symptoms include irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, hair loss and hair in unwanted places. All this is because the body starts producing an excess of male hormones ‘androgen’. There is no cure for PCOS, but it’s symptoms can be treated to lead a better life.

Polycystic ovary syndrome treatment mainly focuses on managing each symptom like, infertility, weight gain, acne, hirsutism (excess hair in unwanted place).

  • Lifestyle Change

This is a very important step towards treating PCOS. Start with exercising regularly for at least half an hour. If you wish to shed those extra kilos, it’s recommended to start with a low-calorie diet combined with moderate exercise. This will not only help regulate your monthly cycle but also reduce stress, anxiety, and improve fertility by balancing the hormones.

  • Build Muscle

Building muscle will help tone your body, and toned muscles help improve insulin resistance, increase your metabolism, fitness and strength, which will eventually lead to a fitter physique.

  • Birth control pill

Taking birth control pills to treat PCOS is quite popular as it helps regulate the menstrual cycle and even treat symptoms like acne and hair loss and hirsutism by balancing the hormones levels. These oral contraceptive pills contain two types of synthetic female hormones, progestin and estrogen, which are similar to the hormones made by the ovaries.

  • Metformin

Women with PCOS often have high level of insulin, which leads to type 2 diabetes. Metformin is a direct drug which is prescribed for women with PCOS to prevent diabetes. It helps regulate the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood making your body more sensitive to insulin, and regulate cholesterol levels. It also aids in regulating the weight.

  • Cosmetology procedures.

Women with PCOS who suffer from hirsutism and hair loss on scalp, can also choose to opt for cosmetology procedures such as laser treatments to reduce the excess facial and body hair growth along with controlling hair loss from the scalp.

The most important thing to remember is continuous monitoring. PCOS is a disease which has long term complications and no cure. The only way to keep them in track is by regularly visiting your physician, and working your stress levels by various activities such as yoga, meditation and adequate sleep. These activities will not only reduce stress, but also help balance your hormones. Lastly, remember that whatever practice you choose to manage your symptoms, be regular in it. You can start with shifting your focus to all the things you are grateful for in your life, isn’t it just so simple?
