Dressing Do's & Don'ts For The Perfect Date!

Dressing Do's & Don'ts For The Perfect Date!

So, you met someone who you’re about to go out with. Exciting? Absolutely. A little nerve-wracking? Of course. Wondering, how to deal with the anxiety that inevitably comes with the first - date territory? As redundant as it may seem, be yourself, probably the best way to ensure you not only have a great time on a first date, but also get a second date, too.

So whether you’ve been swiped, or been set up by friends, first dates can seem second territory for most of us. What you wear to coffee, cocktails or dinner at the finest restaurant in town, shouldn’t add to your stress. So we have set down dos and don’ts for you to channel that tension into curating a look that lets your potential partner see you at your alluring best.

1. Be comfortable, but not too comfortable:
The athleisure trend sure is at it’s peek and is endured by almost every girl. But wearing something too comfy to your first date, might ring the wrong bell in his mind. You don’t want to seem like you don’t care at all. So, keep the sweats for a casual catch up instead of your first date.

2. Don’t Overdress:
You might want to step it up a notch in the hair, makeup and ensemble department, but don’t reinvent. Going overboard on an outfit for your first date, might seem like you’re trying too hard.

3. Be Yourself:
Don’t try to be what you think he wants you to be. Attempting to get a read on exactly what your date is attracted to is a great way to sabotage your chances at easing into a budding relationship, but for how long can you pretend? So, if your style is more feminine, that’s exactly what you should wear.

4. When in doubt, choose red:
Studies have shown that men think red is the sexiest colour on a woman. It also is a colour that instantly makes you feel extremely confident. So, if you aren’t bold enough to rock a LRD, try to include the colour in your ensemble by wearing a red skirt with a cream top so you don’t look OTT or wear the colour on your lips.

5. The Only Right shoe:
In movies, we see the lead actress make a statement with their sky high heels, looking drop dead gorgeous. But, if you are not a pro at walking in 6 inches, stay clear from them. You want to look welcoming and don’t want to be in something constrictive. If you look uncomfortable, then chances are that your date is going to feel uncomfortable around you. You want to walk a fine line between comfortable and slightly sexy. That means kitten heels, mid-heel pumps are your strategic choices.

6. Don’t forget your signature scent:
When it comes to perfumes for first dates, you don’t want something that hammers his nose or is so cloying it even masks the scent of garlic bread. The scent is as important as your outfit. You must smell as good as you look. So if your signature scent is sweet, opt for something with a hint of floral without a whole floral bouquet.

Finally, wear clothing that speaks about you, not for you, and who knows, the right outfit might result in a great match.
