Anti Ageing - Causes, Measures And More!
We age everyday. As much as this sounds like a very heartbreaking statement, it’s true. Your skin gradually changes and ageing starts as early as 25 years! Don’t let this surprise you! Today, we’re going to breakdown the basics of ageing and everything that you can do to “age gracefully” when it comes to skin. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and the only organ which SHOWS you the signs of ageing.
So how does skin age? What really happens beneath the skin that leads to ageing? Our skin has collagen which is the main protein which helps in the elasticity of skin. When you age, The collagen fibers break, thicken, stiffen, clump together, and lose their elasticity, thus resulting in wrinkles and ageing lines. When in your forties and fifties, the skin becomes dry and is easily bruised, damaged, or broken because the sebaceous (oil) glands decreased in size. The top layer of your skin AKA the epidermis thins with time and hence skin also becomes more transparent with age. It’s very important to KNOW what ageing is to combat and slow down the process.
What can you do to slow down the ageing process?
1. Boost collagen : Vitamin C is the main source of vitamin C, so it’s always a good idea to consistently consume foods like oranges, lemons, strawberries. Also, eating fish really helps! Sun is one of the major causes of ageing, so DON’T step out without slathering some good quality sunscreen on the exposed parts. We love the Lotus matte gel sunscreen with spa 50 and PA +++
2. Treatments : Dr. Harshana Bijlani talks about the various treatments you can do to combat this process. If the lines are too prominent, you can also get botox and filler treatments down. In addition to them, there’s an array of facial treatments, lasers etc to improve the collagen in the skin.
3. Hydration and exercising : If you’ve ever gone for a run, or observed yourself after a pumped up zumba session, you’ll notice that your skin that this glow. Nothing can get you a glow like the one you see post your work out! Why? Because it’s not just giving an external glow, but pumping up your blood circulation throughout your body which is the real reason behind that “post workout glow” that you love.
Alcohol drinking and smoking - The HAZARDOUS GUILTY PLEASURES THAT DO YOU NO GOOD
Yes, that’s right. You need to absolutely cut smoking and lessen all the binge drinking you do over the weekends. Alcohol dehydrates you so you need to make sure you stay well hydrated between your drinks, no matter how much it’s making you get up from your seat and use the loo.
Even coffee, tea, green tea (basically all caffeines) dehydrate you. So make drinking water throughout the day a habit.
Ageing can’t be completely combatted, but these measures will surely help you slow down the process and make visible changes! All I would like to say to you is, start acting now! :)
