The Anatomy Of Sunscreen

The Anatomy Of Sunscreen

If you have followed our page, or any beauty gurus for long enough you must’ve noticed their repeated mentions about the importance of sunscreen. They’ll be constantly telling you to use sunscreen before you step out, reapply it, invest in a good sunscreen etc etc. The battle against the sun never stops but a good sunscreen will definitely act as a protective shield. So let’s get down to business and understand why sunscreen is so important.

THE ANATOMY OF SUNSCREEN :

Why is sunscreen so important? Sun rays are harmful and we live in a country where it’s hot pretty much 365 days of the year. The ultra violet or the UV rays are the ones responsible for pigmentation, ageing, dark spots and tanning. Burns and fine lines are also caused because of these rays. If the sun is capable of causing hazardous and fatal diseases like skin cancer, you should DEFINITELY consider using sunscreen regularly and consistently.

As explained in the video, the UVA rays are the most hazardous, so definitely look for the word UVA on your sunscreen bottle. If there’s UVB, even better! PA is a Japanese/Korean rating system that was a way to show how much protection you are getting from UVA rays. You will see either PA+, PA++, or PA+++ on the label, with more + signs meaning a higher level of UVA protection.

So how often should you apply the sunscreen? And how much quantity do you really need? If you’ve used sunscreen before and it got sticky, oily and basically everything that you hate, you probably must’ve skipped your sunscreen routines thinking it’s completely okay. Don’t ever do that. There’s a lot of good sunscreens in the market that are made for different skin types.

The Lotus matte gel sunscreen with SPF 50 and PA +++ soaks into your skin and it’s completely sweat proof. Other good sunscreen brands are Vichy, neutrogena and lakme. Find the one that suits you best and use it daily. Repeat when it wears off.

Your ideal routine before you step out of the house should be - cleanse face, apply sunscreen, apply primer / moisturiser and THEN makeup.

Pro tip - A pea sized amount of sunscreen is going to do you no good. So take a good amount and spread it evenly across your face.

Get ready to take on the heat this summer by keeping your skin protected from the sun at all times!
